Grant Description
Grants to Kansas nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in eligible locations to support general operations. Funding is intended to provide organizational assistance to qualifying nonprofits that demonstrate and document excellence in providing education and artistic leadership to the public. Requests will be accepted from applicants serving the Wichita community.

The City of Wichita strives to encourage and provide financial support to the arts and cultural organizations that demonstrate and document excellence in quality artistic and cultural programs, professional artistic and administrative staffing, financial stability and their contribution to the community at large. The objective is to provide fiduciary support to exemplary organizations, which contribute to the quality of life and add to the economic growth and vitality of the community.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Cultural Funding Operating Grants provide operational support for qualifying 501(c)(3) non-profit arts and cultural organizations that significantly serve Wichita citizens.

An eligible applicant is one that meets all of the following criteria:
- Must have a mission statement that aligns with the following definition: “An organization that provides education and artistic leadership to the public through the production, exhibition, advancement or preservation of visual or performing art, literature, film, science, natural or cultural history.”
- Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
- Has as its primary purpose to produce or present arts or cultural programs.
- Must serve the citizens of the City of Wichita.
- Is not a “Cultural Institution.” The Cultural Arts Plan defines “Cultural Institutions” as arts and cultural organizations with operations and activities owned and/or operated by the City of Wichita.
- Has a minimum of five (5) years of operational history serving the citizens of Wichita.
- Has full-time professional management and/or cultural/artistic staff.
- Presents a full season of exhibitions or performances.
- Is ADA compliant.

Cultural Funding organizations that have an annual operating budget that is $50,000 or less per year, may also be eligible for additional funding through the Developing Arts Program.

Each grant applicant may submit only one Operational Grant application each annual grant cycle. Cultural Funding organizations with an annual operating budget at $50,000 or less per year may also be eligible for additional funding through the Developing Arts Program. Please check with City staff to determine your organization's eligibility.

The Division of Arts and Cultural Services staff will review each application submitted by the deadline. The purpose of this review is to check for basic compliance. It is not an evaluation of the content or quality of the application. Applications that meet eligibility and compliance requirements will be submitted to the Cultural Funding Committee for evaluation.

Applicants are required to answer questions pertaining to their application at a Q&A session with the Cultural Funding Committee. All organizations whose applications are accepted for consideration will be contacted to schedule a time (organizations will know beforehand whether their applications were accepted). Q&A sessions will be held Thursday, July 20th.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with The Division of Arts and Cultural Services staff to review the application requirements and answer any questions regarding the application or process. An organization who has questions regarding its eligibility should request a determination prior to submitting an application.

Estimated Size of Grant
Organizations are categorized into one of three size types, depending on the organization's prior year actual expenses, excluding in-kind services.
- Large organizations are those with actual expenses of $500,000 or more, and the maximum request allowed is 8%, or up to $75,000
- Medium organizations have actual expenses between $250,000 and $499,999, and the maximum request allowed is 10%
- Small organizations have actual expenses from $1 to $249,999, and the maximum request allowed is 15%.
