Grants ranging from $500 to $10,000 to Kansas and Missouri nonprofits for programs that promote social and economic enhancement for the African-American community in the Greater Kansas City area. First-time applicants must contact the funding source prior to applying. Eligible applicants are those that demonstrate a programmatic focus on improving the quality of life of African-Americans in the Greater Kansas City region through one of the following areas:

- Health Care
- Education
- Youth Development

The BCF Board of Directors will also give consideration to a vital Community Enhancement, that which will have a positive long-term impact and/or is affecting systemic change.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants usually range in size from $500 to $10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered a potential grantee, an organization must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and demonstrate a programmatic focus on improving the quality of life of African-Americans in the Greater Kansas City region.

While requests to support special events are discouraged, the following types of grants will not be considered:

- Grants to endowments or to consultants that help prepare, create and build endowments
- Reduction or liquidation of existing debt
- Capital expenditures
- Scholarships or grants to individuals
- Annual appeals or fundraising drives, membership contributions and conference expenses

No organization shall have more than one active grant or grant request with the Black Community Fund at any time. In general, the Black Community Fund will not be the sole or primary funder of a proposed project or organization.

If your organization has never applied to the Black Community Fund, please call Pat Macdonald before applying to help determine if your project is a good fit for this opportunity.

If your organization is applying for a community enhancement project, please call to discuss your concept before submitting.

The Black Community Fund has the following deadlines:

Thursday, June 1, 2017, 5:00 p.m. (Applications reviewed in July)
Wednesday, September 27, 2017, 5:00 p.m. (Applications reviewed in November)
